To determine if your vehicle is classified as a pickup truck, van, sport utility vehicle (SUV), or another type of vehicle for purposes of determining the applicable manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for a vehicle, you should refer to the classification on the fuel economy label included as part of the window sticker and the EPA Size class displayed on FuelEconomy.gov. Specifically:
Vehicles whose class includes "sport utility vehicle," "pickup truck," or "van" on the fuel economy label or on FuelEconomy.gov are considered a sport utility vehicle, pickup truck, or van respectively for this purpose. The $80,000 MSRP limit applies to these classifications, including the following vehicle classes:
If your eligible vehicle is not in one of the classes described above, the $55,000 MSRP limitation applies.
For further confirmation, you can also refer to the Department of Energy's list of eligible clean vehicles on FuelEconomy.gov, which includes battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles that qualified manufacturers have indicated meet the requirements to claim the new clean vehicle credit, including the applicable MSRP limitation.
