Yes, you can obtain a transcript or a copy of Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, from the IRS.
- Transcript of Form W-2: You can get a wage and income transcript, which contains the federal tax information your employer reported to the Social Security Administration (SSA). This transcript can be obtained by visiting the IRS's "Get Your Tax Record" page. You can also use Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return, to request this transcript. Most requests will be processed within 10 business days from the date the IRS receives the form. Note that this transcript does not include any state or local tax information reported by your employer to the SSA on Form W-2.
- Copy of Form W-2: If you need an actual copy of your Form W-2, the quickest way is to contact your employer directly. If you cannot get it from your employer and you previously attached it to your paper tax return, you can order a copy of the entire return from the IRS for a fee by completing and mailing Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return. Allow 75 calendar days for the IRS to process your request. The fee for this service will be waived for taxpayers impacted by a federally declared disaster or a significant fire.
If you e-filed your tax return or did not attach your Form W-2 to your paper return, you will need to use one of the transcript options mentioned above.
